Brawl Stars XP, previously known as Tokens and Keys and originally called Coins, is a currency earned by playing any game mode. You also receive XP whenever a new event opens, encouraging regular play. XP is primarily used to progress through tiers in the Brawl Pass, unlocking rewards along the way. To boost XP earnings, players can buy XP Doublers from the Shop using Gems or get them for free from Starr Drops, which double the XP gained from matches. Additionally, teaming up with other players in the same game room also doubles the XP earned from playing.

Brawl Stars XP Guide: XP Limit
⭐ Every 2 hours and 24 minutes, 20 XP is added to your XP Counter, up to a maximum of 200 XP.
⭐ With an active Brawl Pass, you earn 40 XP per interval, and the cap increases to 400 XP.
⭐ When your XP Counter is empty, you’ll only earn Trophies and Mastery, not XP from matches.
⭐ You can still earn XP from completing Quests even if the XP Counter is empty.
XP Doublers
XP Doublers double the next 1,000 XP earned from matches and cost 25 Gems in the Shop. They can also be obtained for free through Daily Freebies, Trophy Road, or Starr Drops. Teaming with others in a game room also doubles XP from matches. Doublers don’t affect Quest rewards. Previously found in Brawl Boxes (3% drop rate), they became unobtainable this way after Brawl Boxes were removed in December 2022.
Star Tokens
Star Tokens were special Tokens earned by winning an Event for the first time in a rotation, usually when the map changed. Collecting 10 Star Tokens earned a Big Box. In Solo Showdown, placing in the top 4 granted a Star Token, while in Duo Showdown, it required a top 2 finish. Star Tokens were also given regardless of outcome in Big Game, Robo Rumble, and Boss Fight, but they were not obtainable in Power Play.
Double XP Event
Once a month, a Double XP event takes place, doubling the XP earned from matches. However, this event does not affect XP Doublers, the 2x XP bonus from team play, Quest rewards, XP gained by tapping on new events, or XP earned from voting on maps in the Candidates of the Day slot.
Brawl Stars XP Guide: Classic Brawl Event

Star Tokens were reintroduced temporarily in the June 2024 update during the Classic Brawl event. Players earned them by winning a designated Event for the first time in a rotation, completing Quests, and finishing Challenges. Collecting 12 Star Tokens granted one Mega Box. The Events that awarded Star Tokens included Mirror Match, Drum Roll, Solo Showdown, Brawl Ball, Gem Grab, Wipeout or Duels, Hot Zone or Heist, and Knockout, with the tokens refreshing daily.
Brawl Stars XP Guide: Conclusion
In summary, Brawl Stars XP is a vital resource that drives player progression, unlocking rewards, brawlers, and upgrades through consistent gameplay and completing quests. While various methods exist to earn XP—such as match performance, quests, events, and special bonuses like Pro Pass—understanding the limits and how to maximize XP gains can significantly enhance your advancement. Staying engaged with events, participating in team play, and leveraging available XP boosters will help you climb faster and enjoy the full range of rewards the game offers.
Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q)
❔ How do I earn XP in Brawl Stars?
You earn XP primarily by playing matches across all game modes. Additional XP comes from completing quests, winning ranked matches, participating in events, voting for maps, and unlocking trophies on Trophy Road.
❔ What is the XP limit and how does it work?
There’s a cap on how much XP you can accumulate at once—200 XP normally and 400 XP with an active Brawl Pass. Your XP counter refills gradually every 2 hours and 24 minutes, and once empty, you only earn trophies and mastery XP, but can still complete quests.
❔ Do XP Doublers affect all XP gains?
No. XP Doublers only double the XP earned from playing matches, not from quest rewards or other sources like voting or tapping new events. They can be purchased, earned from rewards, or occasionally given for free.
❔ What is Pro Pass XP and how can I get more of it?
Pro Pass XP is earned by winning ranked matches, climbing ranks, and through random drops during matches. Buying the Pro Pass doubles your Pro Pass XP gains and increases weekly XP limits, accelerating progression.
❔ Does Double XP event apply to all XP sources?
No. The Double XP event doubles match XP only. It does not affect XP from XP Doublers, team play, quests, event taps, or voting in the Candidates of the Day.
