Overview

Sonora, the Fire Mummy in Summoners War, is a 3★ HP-based monster with a unique niche. Upon awakening, Summoners War Sonora Fire Mummy gains a passive skill called Burning Body, which causes him to take 30% more damage but reflect 30% of all incoming damage back to the attacker, making him a potential threat in stall or surprise PvP setups. His first skill, Touch of Corruption, is a dual-target attack that can inflict Continuous Damage and scales with both ATK and max HP, while his second skill, Smother, is an AoE that disturbs HP recovery and also scales with HP, making him ideal for bruiser builds.

Sonora’s base stats and skills lend themselves best to HP-focused rune builds, typically with full HP% sets or combinations like HP% and Revenge or Will. While his kit offers some utility in early PvE content like Giants or Dragons, and he can occasionally shine in reflect or anti-heal strategies, he is largely outclassed in the current meta. His leader skill, providing +38% Resistance to Fire allies, adds some niche use in mono-element teams.

Despite his fun and quirky design, most veteran players consider him more of a novelty than a core unit, though some still enjoy his unexpected utility. Overall, Sonora can be enjoyable to build if you like off-meta monsters or are in the early game, but for serious competitive content, there are stronger and more efficient options available.

Strategy

Summoners War Sonora Fire Mummy Guide

Sonora excels as a niche bruiser with a reflect-damage mechanic that can surprise opponents in specific PvP scenarios. His passive, Burning Body, reflects 30% of all incoming damage back to the attacker, making him particularly effective against multi-hit attackers or DoT-heavy comps, though it comes at the cost of receiving 30% more damage himself.

To capitalize on his unique kit, it’s best to build him with high HP and survivability—runes like Energy, Guard, or Revenge with main stats of HP% on 2/4/6 will let him maximize both his sustain and damage output through HP-scaling skills. His AoE second skill, Smother, applies healing block, making him useful against enemies that rely on sustain or heal-based comps, particularly in Arena defense or Special League formats.

Though his speed is low, pairing him with units that grant Turn Cycling or Shields can extend his survivability and utility. While he is not part of the current PvP or PvE meta, Sonora can thrive in off-meta reflect or anti-heal strategies, especially when the enemy underestimates his passive damage. He’s best viewed as a fun and unexpected threat rather than a core unit, ideal for players looking to experiment or build creative defenses in lower to mid-tier content.

Strength and Weakness

Summoners War Sonora Fire Mummy Guide

Strength: Sonora’s main strength lies in his unique passive, Burning Body, which reflects 30% of incoming damage back to attackers, allowing him to punish multi-hit units and chip away at enemies without actively attacking. As an HP-scaling bruiser, both of his offensive skills benefit from high max HP, making him easy to build for sustain and utility.

Weakness: Sonora’s biggest weakness is his passive drawback—while his Burning Body reflects 30% of incoming damage, it also causes him to take 30% more damage, making him significantly more fragile than typical HP tanks. His low base Speed and lack of self-sustain or crowd control limit his effectiveness in faster-paced PvP matches.

Synergy

Sonora synergizes best with units that amplify his survivability and support his reflect-damage playstyle. He pairs well with defensive buffers like Chasun, Lulu, or Rina, who can heal and protect him from the increased damage he takes due to his passive. Shield and immunity providers such as Fran, Delphoi, or Chloe are excellent partners, as they reduce the risk of him being burst down before reflecting damage. Allies that apply provokes or taunts—like Harmonia or Crowd Control tanks—can help funnel attacks toward Sonora, forcing opponents to trigger his reflect passive.

He also benefits from turn-cycling or ATB boosters like Megan or Orion, which help mitigate his low base Speed. In PvE or prolonged battles, pairing Sonora with healing blockers or DoT units such as Thrain or Hemos can create synergy through attrition-based damage. Overall, Sonora works best in slow, grindy teams built for sustain, attrition, and surprise punishment rather than burst damage or speed-clearing strategies.

Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q)

Is Sonora worth building?

Sonora isn’t a top-tier unit, but he’s worth building if you enjoy off-meta or reflect-based strategies. He’s fun, unique, and usable in early-mid game PvP or gimmick defenses, but not essential for progression.

What is Sonora’s main role?

Sonora is a bruiser/tank with HP-scaling attacks and a reflect-damage passive. He’s best used in stall defenses, reflect teams, or anti-heal setups, especially in PvP formats like Arena and Special League.

Does Sonora’s passive work with multi-hit attacks?

Yes, his Burning Body passive reflects damage from each hit, making him effective against units with multiple attacks per turn—though it also makes him more vulnerable if unprotected.
