Culture

There are seven unique cultures in Evony, each with their own buffs – meaning their own pro’s and con’s depending on your gameplay. This guide will show you what each culture is, the pro’s of the culture, the playstyle it fits into, and finally how to change Culture.

Please note that your keep’s culture, also impacts the culture of your in-house sub city – and the buffs that it provides. This is key when deciding what culture fits your playstyle and should also be considered.

Europe

This culture is offers on stone production, mounted troop attack, and march speed to monsters. Personally I think Europe is one of the worst cultures players, especially new players, can choose. These buffs do not have as much impact as other cultures do – although they are somewhat useful for hitting bosses.

China

China offers buffs to troop load, ground troop attack, and research speed. I personally quite like China, and would switch to this culture (although it is not my primary culture) when I plan to do a lot of research. Please note it typically costs 2,000 gems to switch culture and so if you are switching to make use of these buffs, make sure you are really getting good use of the buffs (do lots of research). This culture is also good on alt farm accounts, as it increases in city resource production through the sub city.

Japan

This culture provides buffs to food production, ground troop defense, and crafting speed.

The Japan culture is okay, and the crafting speed bonus can be quite nice although often players craft as soon as possible rather than stock piling, so the 4,000 gem cost to switch and then switch back may be quite costly. The Japan sub city though offers a troop attack buff, which a lot of PVP orientated players love – which gives this culture a big added bonus.

Korea

This culture gives buffs for lumber production, ranged troop attack, and healing speed. Personally this is my favourite culture as a mostly free to play player, as the sub city gives a gathering buff. I also typically play with a ranged set up, and so the 5% ranged troop attack is a nice to have. The healing speed and lumber production is not a huge bonus, but they are nice to haves – particularly the healing speed.

America

This culture gives buffs for gold levy, siege machine attack, and training speed. With the Europe culture, this is probably one of the worst cultures available. The only real plus side is when you are producing lots of troops, or if you are doing research and your in-city sub city is to a high quality as it provides a research buff.

Russia

This culture offers buffs on ore production, mounted troop defense, and traps building speed. This culture is used by defense-based PVP players due to the defense buff offered by the sub city. The additional mounted troop defense is also quite a nice thing to have. The traps building speed is not particularly impactful, especially with a lot of players opting not to use traps due to their demolition in battlefield – although if you do use traps, then this 10% is a nice buff to have.

Arabia

This culture is probably the most unused culture from my experience, due to the fact that gems gathering speed and bonus from offering buffs become obsolete as you advance through the game. The mounted troop HP buff is a nice to have, but with the other two buffs being useless, it is not enough by itself to be selected. The sub city buff is an increase in hospital capacity, but with most players choosing to only PVP in SVS / BOC / BOG, this starts to become obsolete.

To change your keep’s culture, you should click on your keep, and then click “Culture Feature”. New players get one free change of their culture, but typically it costs 2,000 gems to change your keep’s culture.
