Introduction to Genshin Impact Sethos

Genshin Impact Sethos is a 4-star Electro character who utilizes a Bow and was first introduced in Version 4.6 during Cyno’s second story quest. He is scheduled to be released as a playable character in Version 4.7, appearing on the banners alongside Clorinde and Alhaitham. Genshin Impact Sethos hails from the Temple of Silence, an ancient order in Sumeru dedicated to preserving the legacy of Hermanubis. He is intended to be a main DPS character, and with the right build and team compositions, he can be a solid choice for this role. Given his 4-star rarity, many players might acquire him while wishing for other characters.

Talent Priority
| Talent | Priority | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Normal Attack | ★★★★☆ (1st) | Core source of damage; enhanced into Electro Dusk Bolts during Burst. |
| Elemental Burst | ★★★☆☆ (2nd) | Converts Normal Attacks; scales with EM and triggers Charged ATK DMG. |
| Elemental Skill | ★★☆☆☆ (3rd) | Least impactful; lower contribution to overall damage. |
When leveling Genshin Impact Sethos’ talents, the recommended priority is Normal Attack first, followed by Elemental Burst, and then Elemental Skill. Most of Genshin Impact Sethos’ damage originates from his basic attacks, making it essential to level this talent quickly. His Elemental Burst also contributes significantly to his damage output, placing it as the second priority. The Elemental Skill is considered less crucial for his overall damage compared to his Normal Attack and Burst, hence it should be leveled last. During his Elemental Burst state (“Twilight Meditation”), Sethos’s Normal Attacks are converted into enemy-piercing Dusk Bolts that deal Electro damage based on his Elemental Mastery and are considered Charged Attack damage.
Best Genshin Impact Sethos Team Compositions
Genshin Impact Sethos shines particularly well in Aggravate (Quicken) team compositions. While Hyperbloom and Quickbloom teams are alternative options, they generally do not perform as strongly as Aggravate teams for him. Here are some recommended team compositions:
| Fischl | Kazuha | Nahida |
- Aggravate: Genshin Impact Sethos + Fischl + Kazuha + Nahida
| Fischl | Kazuha | Kirara |
- Aggravate: Genshin Impact Sethos + Fischl + Kazuha + Kirara
| Fischl | Zhongli | Nahida |
- Aggravate: Genshin Impact Sethos + Fischl + Zhongli + Nahida
| Fischl | Sucrose | Kirara |
- Aggravate: Genshin Impact Sethos + Fischl + Sucrose + Kirara
| Nahida | Dendro Traveler | Yelan |
| main character |
- Hyperbloom: Genshin Impact Sethos + Nahida + Dendro Traveler + Yelan
| Fischl | Xingqiu | Nahida |
- Quickbloom: Genshin Impact Sethos + Fischl + Xingqiu + Nahida
| Dehya | Chevreuse | Yae Miko |
![]() |
- Overloaded: Genshin Impact Sethos + Dehya + Chevreuse + Yae Miko
| Thoma | Chevreuse | Fischl |
![]() |
- Overloaded: Genshin Impact Sethos + Thoma + Chevreuse + Fischl
Fischl is often considered a near must-have in most of his team compositions (except Hyperbloom), as she provides substantial off-field damage and acts as an excellent battery to help Genshin Impact Sethos regenerate energy quickly. Dendro characters like Nahida and Kirara are crucial for enabling Electro reactions, with Nahida significantly boosting Elemental Mastery.
Anemo characters such as Kazuha or Sucrose can provide crowd control and reduce enemy Electro resistance through the Viridescent Venerer set. Shielders like Zhongli or healers like Kokomi can improve Sethos’ survivability, especially since he can be vulnerable while charging his attacks. In Hyperbloom teams, having reliable Dendro application from units like Nahida or the Dendro Traveler, combined with Hydro units like Yelan or Xingqiu, is essential for creating Dendro Cores that Sethos can trigger with his Electro attacks. Chevreuse is a key buffer for Overloaded teams involving Pyro and Electro characters.
Ascension and Talent Materials

|---|---|
| Elemental Gemstones | Vajrada Amethyst Sliver / Fragment / Chunk / Gemstone |

Sethos Talent Level-Up Materials
| Material Type | Items Needed |
|---|---|
| Talent Books | Teachings → Guides → Philosophies of Praxis |
| Common Drops | Faded Red Satin → Trimmed Red Satin → Rich Red Brocade |
| Weekly Boss Drop | Daka’s Bell |
| Crowning Material | Crown of Insight |
To ascend Sethos and level up his talents, you will need specific materials. His ascension requires Vajrada Amethyst slivers, fragments, chunks, and gemstones, along with Faded Red Satin, Trimmed Red Satin, Rich Red Brocade, Trishiraite (a local specialty found abundantly in the Girdle of Sands), and Cloudseam Scale (dropped by a boss). For talent level-ups, he uses Teachings, Guides, and Philosophies of Praxis, Daka’s Bell (a weekly boss drop), and more of the Satin materials, culminating in the Crown of Insight for maxing out talents. Sethos will be the first character to utilize the Trishiraite material.
Playstyles and Mechanics
Sethos has two primary playstyles: one focused on enhanced Charged Attacks (Shadowpiercing Shot) and the other on his Elemental Burst, which converts his Normal Attacks into piercing Electro bolts (Dusk Bolts) considered Charged Attack damage. Both playstyles benefit from Elemental Mastery scaling and are quite energy-hungry.
When using his Charged Attack playstyle, his first Ascension passive, “Black Kite’s Enigma,” significantly reduces the charging time based on his current Elemental Energy, allowing for near-instant Level 2 Charged Shots at the cost of energy. His Elemental Skill, “Ancient Rite: The Thundering Sands,” deals AoE Electro DMG and provides him with some Energy, especially when triggering Electro reactions.
During his Elemental Burst state, his Normal Attacks become Dusk Bolts that pierce through enemies and deal increased damage based on his Elemental Mastery. Buffs to Charged Attack damage will also apply to these Dusk Bolts. Due to the energy consumption of both playstyles, it’s generally not feasible to effectively use both simultaneously.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
When playing Sethos, there are several common mistakes to avoid to maximize his potential. One key mistake is not depending enough on his Charged Attacks. Even during his Burst, his Dusk Bolts are considered Charged Attacks, and many of his buffs and scaling revolve around them. Another error is charging his shots without sufficient Energy. His first Ascension passive allows for quick charging by consuming Energy, so maintaining a good energy flow is crucial. His Elemental Skill can help with this.
Building him with the wrong focus is another pitfall. Since his Charged Attacks scale significantly with Elemental Mastery, artifact sets and weapon choices should prioritize this stat, along with Crit Rate/Damage. Teaming him with redundant characters that don’t contribute to Electro reactions or provide necessary support can also hinder his performance.
Characters that can amplify his damage through Elemental Mastery buffs, resistance shred, or off-field damage are ideal. Finally, not considering his Constellations, especially if you intend to use him as a primary DPS, can limit his potential. His first two Constellations provide a decent damage increase to his Charged Attacks. In particular, C2 grants an Electro DMG bonus under various conditions, and C6 returns Elemental Energy after a Shadowpiercing Shot hits, improving energy management for his Charged Attacks.
By understanding Sethos’ kit, choosing the appropriate artifacts and weapons, prioritizing his talents correctly, building effective team compositions, and avoiding common mistakes, you can effectively utilize him as a strong Electro main DPS in Genshin Impact.
