Spider-Man (Big Time) has a diverse set of abilities designed to make him a key player on the Infestation team, especially for War Defense. His abilities revolve around two combat modes: Anti-Sound and Stealth, each offering distinct benefits. In Anti-Sound Mode, he reduces the Armor of all enemies by 20%, while in Stealth Mode, he gains a +20% Dodge Chance.

His Basic Ability deals 300-340% damage to the primary target and applies Defense Down for up to 3 stacks. This is followed by a Bonus Attack, which deals 280% damage and applies an additional Defense Down. If forced to attack an Infestation ally, Spider-Man (Big Time) deals 10% Piercing damage and less overall damage.

The Special Ability – Big Time Beatdown costs 3/3 energy and grants Spider-Man (Big Time) Anti-Sound mode while clearing Stealth mode. It also clears all Barrier and Revive Once from the primary target and the enemy with the highest speed. This attack is unavoidable and cannot be blocked, while also applying Offense Up and Defense Up (2 turns) to both Spider-Man (Big Time) and all Infestation allies.

His Ultimate Ability – Arachnid Assault grants Stealth mode and clears Anti-Sound mode, allowing him to attack all enemies for 300% damage. It also flips all positive effects on the primary target and applies Disrupted for 2 turns. If Spider-Man (Big Time) is Charged (which requires a full Infestation team on War Defense spawn), the ultimate becomes more potent. It flips all positive effects on all enemies, applies Disrupted and Trauma for 2 turns to all enemies, and applies Blind to the two enemies with the highest Speed. Additionally, it steals up to 2 Ability Energy from each enemy, with a maximum of 2 Ability Energy that Spider-Man (Big Time) can gain. This effect costs 1 Charge to trigger.

His Passive – Stealth Spider offers several strategic advantages. On spawn in War Defense, Spider-Man (Big Time) grants Speed Up to himself and Defense Up (2 turns) to himself and all Infestation allies. If there are 4 or more Infestation allies, he gains 1 Charge (once per war). When attacked, he generates speed bar for himself and his allies and reduces the speed bar generation for enemy Controllers by 50%. If any Infestation ally falls below 50% health, they gain Stealth, while Spider-Man (Big Time) himself gains +150% Focus when he or any Infestation ally drops below 50% health. Additionally, Infestation allies gain +50% Max Health and +150 Focus, further strengthening the team’s synergy.

Spider-Man (Big Time)’s abilities revolve around disrupting enemies and enhancing his Infestation allies, making him an essential asset in War Defense, where his synergy and charge mechanics provide significant advantages.

The Infestation Team

Marvel Strike Force Spider Man Big Time - Swarm
Marvel Strike Force Spider Man Big Time - Yellowjacket

The Infestation Team is a new team in Marvel Strike Force, designed specifically for Alliance War Defense, with Spider-Man (Big Time) serving as the central figure. This team also includes Ant-Man, Black Widow, Swarm, and Yellowjacket, all of whom are older characters that have been reworked to enhance their roles within the team, with improvements to their stats and abilities. Spider-Man (Big Time) plays the role of a Controller and is known for his high Health and Focus, making him the linchpin of the team.

The Infestation team is aimed at providing a strong War Defense strategy, and when Spider-Man (Big Time) is paired with the full team, he gains a charge in War Defense that significantly boosts his Ultimate Ability. This ability allows him to apply disruptive debuffs to all enemies and steal ability energy, but the charge and associated ultimate bonuses can only activate once per War.

While the Infestation team is tailored for War Defense, its reception has been mixed, with some players expressing disappointment. A major point of frustration is the team's focus on War Defense, which limits its effectiveness in other game modes like Raids, Cosmic Crucible, Blitz, and Arena. This has led to some players humorously referring to Spider-Man (Big Time) as "Spider-Man big turd." Additionally, some have voiced concerns over the team’s lack of strong thematic connections to the broader Marvel lore.

Despite these criticisms, the Infestation team may find some utility in Gamma Raids, where certain nodes might require Pim Tech and Infestation traits, potentially providing some benefit in these specific raids. However, the Infestation team’s primary purpose remains as a War Defense specialist, with Spider-Man (Big Time) at its core, and its limited use outside of this mode has contributed to a somewhat negative community response.

ISO-8 Considerations

When selecting an ISO-8 class for Spider-Man (Big Time), the most popular choice among players is Striker, with 84% of active players opting for this class. This choice is largely driven by the synergy between Striker and Spider-Man (Big Time)’s abilities. Striker enhances his damage output and ensures the additional follow-up attack, which is particularly valuable given the Infestation team's ability to assist, making Striker an optimal choice for maximizing overall damage.

Alternatively, Raider is another viable option. The Raider class could be particularly beneficial for Spider-Man (Big Time) due to his ability to start the fight with his Ultimate, which targets all enemies. Raider applies Vulnerable to multiple targets, setting up Spider-Man (Big Time) and his allies to take full advantage of the vulnerability and deal increased damage. This class complements his role in War Defense, where his multi-target Ultimate can have a substantial impact.

On the other hand, Skirmisher is not recommended for Spider-Man (Big Time). Given his naturally high Focus, especially with his Ultimate ability that includes an additional Focus boost, the extra Focus from Skirmisher is redundant. This makes the class less effective for Spider-Man (Big Time), as he is already well-equipped to apply debuffs, particularly in the context of Alliance War Defense.

In summary, Striker remains the most commonly used and recommended ISO-8 class for Spider-Man (Big Time) due to its overall synergy with his abilities, particularly the additional follow-up attack. However, Raider can also be a strong option, especially for enhancing his effectiveness in War Defense with his multi-target Ultimate. Skirmisher is considered less useful, as his high Focus makes the extra boost unnecessary.

T4 Ability Upgrade Priority

The recommended T4 ability upgrade priority for Spider-Man (Big Time) focuses on enhancing his utility, particularly in War Defense. The suggested order for upgrading his abilities is Passive > Ultimate > Special > Basic.

The Passive ability should be prioritized for T4 upgrade, as upgrading it to level 5 provides significant benefits. It generates speed bar for Spider-Man (Big Time) and his Infestation allies every time he is attacked, and it reduces speed bar generation for enemy Controllers by 50% in War Defense. These effects are crucial for controlling the pace of battles and hindering enemy Controllers.

Next, the Ultimate ability is considered a must to max out. At its maximum level, the Ultimate applies Trauma for 2 turns to all enemies, Blind for 2 turns to the two enemies with the highest speed, and steals ability energy from enemies. These effects make the Ultimate a powerful tool for disrupting enemies and gaining an advantage in battle.

The Special ability should be upgraded to Level 7, as it provides additional value by removing all Barrier from 2 enemies, enhancing its effectiveness in battles. It also boasts a short cooldown, ensuring Spider-Man (Big Time) can use it frequently.

The Basic ability is not considered a priority for T4 upgrades, as it doesn’t provide as much impactful utility compared to the other abilities.

In summary, the recommended T4 upgrade order for Spider-Man (Big Time) is Passive > Ultimate > Special > Basic, with the focus on enhancing his control, disruption, and team utility, particularly in War Defense.

Gameplay and Strategic Use

Spider-Man (Big Time) is primarily designed as a Controller for the Infestation team, with his strategic value centered around Alliance War Defense. His gameplay revolves around his two combat modes: Anti-Sound and Stealth. Anti-Sound reduces the armor of all enemies by 20%, while Stealth grants him a +20% Dodge Chance. He switches between these modes using his Special (gains Anti-Sound, clears Stealth) and Ultimate (gains Stealth, clears Anti-Sound) abilities.

In Alliance War Defense, Spider-Man (Big Time)’s role is amplified by his Passive ability. Upon spawning, he grants Speed Up to himself and Defense Up to all Infestation allies for two turns. If he has four or more Infestation allies, he gains 1 Charge, which significantly enhances his Ultimate ability. This charge can only trigger once per war and boosts his effectiveness in the initial phases of combat.

His Passive also generates speed bar for himself and Infestation allies when attacked, while reducing speed bar generation for enemy Controllers by 50%. Additionally, if an Infestation ally drops below 50% health, Spider-Man (Big Time) grants them Stealth. If either Spider-Man (Big Time) or an Infestation ally drops below 50% health, he gains +150% Focus, further increasing his effectiveness in applying debuffs.

His Ultimate ability, Arachnid Assault, becomes especially potent when his Charge is active. At full strength, it attacks all enemies, flips all positive effects, applies Disrupted for two turns, inflicts Trauma for two turns, applies Blind to the two enemies with the highest speed, and steals up to two Ability Energy from each enemy. This makes Spider-Man (Big Time) a significant threat in War Defense, as his Ultimate can disrupt the enemy team and provide a large amount of control.

The Special ability, Big Time Beatdown, clears Barrier and Revive Once from the primary target and the enemy with the highest Speed, while applying Offense Up and Defense Up for two turns to himself and all Infestation allies. This ability is key for disrupting enemy strategies and supporting his team.

Outside of War Defense, Spider-Man (Big Time)'s strategic use is limited. His abilities are highly conditioned for War Defense, particularly the Trauma application from his Ultimate. Although his Basic ability applies Defense Down and his Ultimate can inflict Disrupted, his overall impact in other game modes such as Raids, Cosmic Crucible, and Arena is underwhelming. There are niche uses, such as in Gamma Raids, where the Infestation team may be helpful for certain nodes requiring Pim Tech and Infestation traits. Additionally, some players have found him useful in Cosmic Crucible or as a leftover character in War offense.

Spider-Man (Big Time) is vulnerable to counters, especially from teams like Nowhere, with Nova being a significant threat, as he can prevent Spider-Man (Big Time) from using his Ultimate. Quick elimination of Spider-Man (Big Time), particularly through focused attacks, can diminish the effectiveness of the Infestation team, as his death may cause them to lose certain passive bonuses.

Overall, Spider-Man (Big Time) is a strong Controller in Alliance War Defense, where his charge mechanic and enhanced Ultimate make him a key asset. However, his utility outside of War Defense is limited, which has led to a mixed reception from the player base, with some expressing disappointment in his reliance on a single game mode.

Comic Book Origins

Spider-Man (Big Time) is a version of Peter Parker from a specific point in the Marvel 616 universe, and his storyline is part of a relatively short arc within the broader Spider-Man mythos. This version of Spider-Man is marked by his innovative use of technology to overcome challenges, particularly the loss of his iconic Spider-Sense.

The story begins when Peter Parker loses his job as a photographer for The Daily Bugle and takes on a new role as a research scientist and engineer at Horizon Labs. This new position provides him with a steady paycheck, flexible hours, and a stable environment, making it ideal for balancing his life as Spider-Man. This phase of his life also sets the stage for the creation of Parker Industries, a key development in his later storylines.

During his first day at Horizon Labs, Peter encounters a new version of Hobgoblin, who attacks the lab. In this confrontation, Peter discovers that his Spider-Sense is not functioning properly, a critical blow for someone who relies on his sixth sense for survival. The Hobgoblin's supersonic laugh is revealed to be the cause of this disruption, making Peter’s usual way of fighting far more difficult.

To compensate for the loss of his Spider-Sense, Peter develops the Big Time Suit, a technologically advanced Spider-Man suit that offers enhanced capabilities. The suit features two key modes: Green (Stealth) Mode, which reflects infrasonic sound waves and renders Peter invisible, and Red (Anti-Sound) Mode, which shields him from ultrasonic waves, providing sound protection but no invisibility. These modes allow him to combat the Hobgoblin and successfully retrieve stolen reverbium for Horizon Labs, marking his first use of the suit in battle.

The "Big Time" name refers to Peter’s sense of accomplishment at the end of the storyline, as he realizes that the technology behind his suit could be commercialized, and he begins to feel as though he has “hit the big time” with his new stable job and entrepreneurial potential.

During this period, Peter also has a romantic relationship with Carly Cooper, who remains unaware of his dual identity as Spider-Man. While the initial "Big Time" storyline is relatively contained, Peter later modifies the suit in response to new threats. One such instance involves the Massacre arc, where Peter faces the villain Massacre, an unpredictable gunman. To protect himself against Massacre’s attacks, Peter develops a yellow, bulletproof mode for the suit, compensating for his continued issues with Spider-Sense.

In summary, Spider-Man (Big Time) represents a period in Peter Parker’s life where he innovates to overcome a significant weakness. By developing a high-tech suit to address his loss of Spider-Sense, he enters a new phase of his life both professionally and as a superhero. The "Big Time" moniker reflects his growing stability and success at Horizon Labs, marking a turning point in his career and his approach to crime-fighting.

Conclusion

Spider-Man (Big Time) in Marvel Strike Force has proven to be a somewhat polarizing character, with initial excitement giving way to disappointment for many players. Upon his announcement, there was a sense of anticipation due to his strong stats, but this shifted after his release as players came to understand his kit and strategic limitations, leading to a more critical reception.

His design is heavily focused on Alliance War Defense, where he plays a central role in the Infestation team. This team also includes reworks for characters like Ant-Man, Swarm, Black Widow, and Yellowjacket. Spider-Man (Big Time)'s passive ability provides speed bar for himself and his Infestation allies whenever he is attacked, while simultaneously reducing the speed bar generation for enemy Controllers in War Defense. His ultimate ability, especially when charged with a full Infestation team, can flip positive effects, apply Disrupted and Trauma, Blind high-speed enemies, and steal ability energy. These effects make him a formidable presence on War Defense, where his ultimate can be a game-changer.

Strategically, Spider-Man (Big Time) is primarily useful as an anchor for the Infestation team on War Defense, functioning as a significant obstacle that forces opponents to use specific counters. The Nowhere team, with Nova’s ability to prevent Spider-Man (Big Time) from using his ultimate, is considered a strong counter to the Infestation team. Additionally, defeating Spider-Man (Big Time) quickly, such as with a Kingpin basic attack, is another method for neutralizing his impact.

Outside of War Defense, however, Spider-Man (Big Time)'s utility is much more limited. The Trauma application from his ultimate ability is specifically designed for War Defense scenarios, making his contributions less significant in other game modes.

While the Infestation team may have some niche use in Gamma Raids and there have been reports of Spider-Man (Big Time) performing well in Cosmic Crucible alongside a Black Cat team, the general consensus within the community is that he falls short in most game modes. His narrow focus on War Defense has led to disappointment among players, especially as his red stars are likely locked behind dark promotion credits, making him less appealing to invest in for those who don’t prioritize War Defense.

On a more positive note, Spider-Man (Big Time) shards became available in Raid Season Rewards starting on June 25th, which made him more accessible to players and provided an easier way to unlock him compared to previous character releases.

In terms of his comic book origins, Spider-Man (Big Time) is based on a period in Peter Parker’s life when he worked as a research scientist at Horizon Labs. During this time, he developed his advanced suit with stealth and sound-dampening capabilities to compensate for the temporary loss of his Spider-Sense. The "Big Time" storyline represents a period of newfound stability for Peter, both personally and professionally.

Ultimately, whether Spider-Man (Big Time) is worth a heavy investment depends largely on a player's focus on Alliance War Defense. While he can force opponents to counter with specific teams, his overall usefulness in other game modes is limited. This has led some players to regard him as a niche character, and the sentiment within the community is that he may be a "bust" for players not heavily invested in War.
