Pokemon TCG Pocket Venusaur Drop Event
The Pokemon TCG Pocket Venusaur Drop Event marks the second exciting drop event in Pokémon TCG Pocket, following the Lapras ex Drop Event. This limited-time solo battle event centers around the iconic Grass-type Pokémon, Venusaur, and introduces five new promo cards featuring new artwork and, in some cases, unique mechanics. This guide aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the event, detailing its duration, available rewards, and effective strategies to maximize your collection of these exclusive cards.

The Pokemon TCG Pocket Venusaur Drop Event runs for two weeks, from November 29, 2024, to December 13, 2024. Specifically, the event starts at midnight on November 29th and ends at 11:59 PM on December 13th, Central Time (CT). For players in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), the event runs from 6 AM UTC on November 29th to 5:59 AM UTC on December 13th. It is advisable to check your in-game clock for the exact end time in your local timezone.
This is a Solo Battle event where players challenge powerful Grass-type decks led by Venusaur and its evolutions. The event features four tiers of Solo Battles with increasing difficulty: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Expert. You must unlock the next trial by successfully beating the current one. The Pokemon TCG Pocket Venusaur Drop Event follows a similar structure to the Lapras ex Drop Event, focusing on solo battles and the acquisition of new promo cards.
Pokemon TCG Pocket Venusaur Drop Event: New Promo Cards (Promo Pack A Series Vol. 2)
The Pokemon TCG Pocket Venusaur Drop Event introduces five new promo cards, all obtainable from Promo Pack A Series Vol. 2. These packs are awarded to players for defeating the event-exclusive solo battles. Here is a list of the new promo cards and their details:

Venusaur (Promo-A #18)
This is the featured card of the event, showcasing a new full-art illustration by Kuroimori depicting Venusaur sleeping next to a cozy garden. Its attack, “Mega Drain,” deals 80 damage and heals 30 damage from this Pokémon. Venusaur is the rarest card in the Promo Pack A Series Vol. 2, with a drop rate of 12.66%.

Greninja (Promo-A #19)
Features new artwork of Greninja in an action pose surrounded by water. Its attacks are “Water Shuriken” (20 damage to one opponent’s Pokémon once per turn) and “Mist Slash” (60 damage). Greninja is the second rarest card in the pack, with a drop rate of 15.82%.

Haunter (Promo-A #20)
This version introduces a new attack called “Surprise Attack”. It has reduced HP (70, down from 80) and increased damage for its attack (50, up from 30). “Surprise Attack” deals 50 damage, but requires a coin flip: if tails, the attack does nothing. Haunter has an equal chance of being pulled at a drop rate of 23.84%.

Onix (Promo-A #21)
Features new artwork originating from the Pokémon TCG Lost Thunder expansion, depicting Onix tunneling under Digletts. Its attack, “Land Crush,” deals 70 damage. Onix has an equal chance of being pulled at a drop rate of 23.84%.

Jigglypuff (Promo-A #22)
This version introduces a new ability called “Sing”. The “Sing” ability costs one Colorless Energy and puts the opponent’s Active Pokémon to sleep. This new ability provides sleep support for various decks and is considered more effective than the original card which lacked this effect. Jigglypuff has an equal chance of being pulled at a drop rate of 23.84%.
Pokemon TCG Pocket Venusaur Drop Event: Battles

There are four Solo Battles available during the Pokemon TCG Pocket Venusaur Drop Event, each costing one Event Stamina to challenge, which is only spent on a successful attempt (win). Progressing to higher difficulties increases the chance of receiving a Promo Pack. The Expert level guarantees a Promo Pack every time you beat it. Here’s a breakdown of each battle:

Upgrades with Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, Venusaur ex, Paras, Parasect, Skiddo, Gogoat, Farfetch’d, two Kangaskhan, Tauros, two Poké Balls, one X Speed, and two Professor’s Research. It swaps weaker Grass-types for tanky Colorless-types like Kangaskhan to buy time for Venusaur ex to power up. Venusaur ex needs four Energy for its strongest attack. Erika and Sabrina also appear in this deck.

- First-Time Rewards: Shop Ticket x1, Pack Hourglass x6, Shinedust x150, 75 Player EXP.
- Chance Rewards: One Promo Pack A Series Vol. 2 (80% chance), 25 Shinedust (100%), one Shop ticket (60.4%).

Petilil and Lilligant are used for Energy acceleration, allowing the opponent to attack with Lilligant to power up Venusaur ex. Getting early KOs on Lilligant and Ivysaur is key to shutting this deck down before Venusaur ex becomes a major threat.

Pokemon TCG Pocket Venusaur Drop Event: Stamina
Event Stamina is required to participate in event battles. One Event Stamina is needed per challenge. It is only consumed on a successful attempt (win). Losing or conceding does not cost Stamina. Event Stamina restores at a rate of 1 every 12 hours. You start with a maximum of 5 Event Stamina. You can bank 3 additional Event Stamina.
Event Stamina can be replenished instantly using Event Hourglasses earned from completing Battle Tasks. Event Hourglasses from previous events can also be used. Each Event Hourglass recovers 1 Event Stamina. Event Stamina can also be replenished using Poké Gold. Consider conceding on lower stages after completing Battle Tasks (especially those not guaranteeing a Promo Pack) to save Event Stamina for higher difficulty battles where the Promo Pack drop rate is better.
Pokemon TCG Pocket Venusaur Drop Event: Strategies and Tips
Utilize Fire-type decks
All Venusaur event decks are Grass-type, making Fire-type Pokémon highly effective due to their weakness. Fire-type attacks deal an extra 20 damage to Grass-types.
Recommended Fire-type decks/Pokémon
- Blaine aggro deck (featuring Rapidash, Ninetales, Magmar) is a budget-friendly and reliable choice. Blaine’s Rental Deck is also a good starting point.
- Decks featuring Charizard ex and Moltres ex are strong options for dealing high damage. Moltres ex can set up quickly to deal significant damage.
- Arcanine ex is another fast and powerful Fire-type attacker.
- Consider using Centiskorch (paired with Moltres ex for faster setup) or Salazzle as alternative Fire-type attackers.
Focus on higher difficulties
While Beginner and Intermediate offer easier wins for first-time rewards and completing initial Battle Tasks, Advanced is farm-friendly with a high Promo Pack drop rate (80%), and Expert guarantees a Promo Pack with every win, making it the most efficient way to collect the new cards. Complete Battle Tasks on the first attempt on lower difficulties to save Event Stamina for farming Expert mode.
Utilize sleep mechanics for the Intermediate Battle Task
Use Jigglypuff (Promo-A #22) with its “Sing” ability or other sleep-inducing Pokémon to easily complete the “Make your opponent’s Pokémon Asleep one time” task. You can concede immediately after applying sleep to save Stamina.
Fast-paced decks
Fast-paced decks are recommended against Venusaur and Venusaur ex, as they can become difficult to knock out once they have accumulated Energy. Be mindful of rarity restrictions for some Advanced and Expert Battle Tasks, requiring decks with only one, two, or three diamond rarity Pokémon. The Blaine aggro deck works well for these restrictions.
Early KOs on Lilligant and Ivysaur
Early KOs on Lilligant and Ivysaur are key in the Expert battle to prevent Venusaur ex from being powered up quickly. Consider using Sabrina in the Advanced battle to force the CPU to switch in Venusaur ex or Ivysaur, allowing you to attack before they can get enough energy.
Pokemon TCG Pocket Venusaur Drop Event: New Accessories
The CPU opponents in the Pokemon TCG Pocket Venusaur Drop Event use new accessories: a Venusaur playmat, sleeves, and coin featuring Venusaur and Bulbasaur. Based on the previous Lapras ex event which featured Meowth accessories that later appeared in a Wonder Pick Event, these Venusaur accessories are likely to become available to players in a future Wonder Pick Event. The game data also includes a Chansey-stamped Bulbasaur, further suggesting the theme of the next Wonder Pick event.
Pokemon TCG Pocket Venusaur Drop Event: Conclusion
The Pokemon TCG Pocket Venusaur Drop Event is a limited-time opportunity to collect five exclusive promo cards, including a stunning full-art Venusaur. By participating in the Solo Battles and utilizing Fire-type decks, players can efficiently earn Promo Packs and add these valuable cards to their collection. Remember to focus on the Expert difficulty for guaranteed rewards and to complete Battle Tasks strategically to maximize your gains before the event concludes on December 13th.
