Visually, it appears as a light-yellow hexagon with glowing particles inside. This shard is highly sought after because it applies the Aromatic mutation to a pet, which significantly boosts the selling price of affected crops.

The Aromatic mutation grants an 18x multiplier to the sale value of crops. Aromatic fruits and food items are identifiable by yellow aromatic lines emanating from their tops.

How to Obtain Grow a Garden Pet Shard Aromatic

Grow a Garden Pet Shard Aromatic can only be acquired as a reward from the Rat Connoisseur NPC. This NPC was introduced as part of the Kitchen Storm update on August 9, 2025, and can be found at the center of the map, appearing as a giant rat with a mustache and a suit.

Grow a Garden Pet Shard Aromatic - Rat Rewards

To get the shard from the Rat Connoisseur, you must submit mutated food dishes to him. After reviewing your food, the Rat Connoisseur will present you with a selection of three random rewards to choose from. The Aromatic Pet Mutation Shard has a 20% chance of appearing as one of these reward options.

While the 20% drop rate is fixed for each attempt, you can improve your overall odds by focusing on certain strategies. Recipes of Divine, Prismatic, or Transcendent rarity tend to yield better reward pools from the Rat Connoisseur.

Dishes made with unique, hard-to-get, or high-cost mutated crops are more valuable to the Rat Connoisseur and increase the likelihood of rare reward options appearing. Heavier dishes are also more likely to result in high-tier reward rolls.

Activating the Kitchen Storm event (by feeding Chris P. Bacon 40 points worth of food) doubles cooking speed, boosts mutation carryover, and adds a chance for the Aromatic mutation on plants, all of which contribute to creating more mutated food for the Rat Connoisseur.

How to Apply the Aromatic Mutation Shard to a Pet

Once you have obtained theGrow a Garden Pet Shard Aromatic:

    1. Hold the Shard: Ensure the shard is in your active inventory slot.
    2. Activate: Left-click on the pet you wish to mutate.
Note: The pet must not already have another mutation. Applying the Aromatic Shard will overwrite any existing mutation on the pet, and this process cannot be undone. Choose your pet carefully.

Grow a Garden Pet Shard Aromatic: Effects

Once applied, pets with the Aromatic mutation gain a passive ability:

Every 24.50 minutes (or 25 minutes or less), the pet will attempt to infuse a nearby crop with a “pungent aroma,” applying the Aromatic mutation. This mutation then gives the affected crops an 18x multiplier to their selling price.

Chasing the Aromatic Pet Mutation Shard immediately might not be the most efficient use of early resources due to its relatively low drop rate and the effort required to produce high-tier mutated dishes. The shard is a valuable long-term asset for optimizing farming profits. It can be integrated into your routine by regularly cooking mutated dishes for the Rat Connoisseur.
