Stardew Valley Night Market Guide

Stardew Valley Night Market

The Night Market is a seasonal festival held from the 15th to the 17th of Winter. During this event, a variety of boats and vendors gather at the Beach docks, offering goods for sale and boat rides for the player. The market operates from 5:00 PM to 2:00 AM each night. However, note that the Submarine Ride ends at 11:00 PM, and the Mermaid Boat closes at 12:30 AM.

Unlike other festivals in Stardew Valley, shops and homes—including those on the beach—remain open during the Night Market, and time continues to pass as usual. Additionally, animals still require feeding during the festival, as the game does not automatically take care of their needs.

Fishing Submarine

The Submarine is accessible between 5 PM and 11 PM. Inside, the Captain offers a deep-sea fishing tour for 1,000g. After accepting, the submarine descends over about 30 in-game minutes. Once submerged, a trapdoor opens, allowing the player to begin fishing. To resurface, simply speak to the Captain again—returning also takes roughly 30 in-game minutes. Players can fish until 2 AM, when they pass out from exhaustion, though using a Warp Totem or Return Scepter allows for a quick exit and more fishing time.

Three unique fish—Midnight Squid, Spook Fish, and Blobfish—can only be caught here unless the player uses Magic Bait. Other possible catches include Seaweed, Sea Jelly, Sea Cucumber, Octopus, Super Cucumber, and, rarely, a Pearl.

Using an Iridium Rod equipped with a Curiosity Lure increases the chances of catching Blobfish, Spook Fish, Super Cucumber, and Pearl, while lowering the odds of catching the other items.

If the player uses a Training Rod, only Sea Cucumber, Pearl, Seaweed, and Sea Jelly can be caught.

The table below shows the chance of catching each item while fishing in the submarine normally, with a Curiosity Lure, or with the Training Rod. Note that if the player is using Targeted Bait, the chance of catching that fish will also increase signficantly, lowering the chances of catching other items.

Magic Shop Boat

Open from 5 PM to 2 AM, the Magic Shop Boat is located just to the right of Famous Painter Lupini at the Night Market. It offers a rotating selection of decorative items, seeds, a unique hat, and a special fireplace, with different stock available each night. All items can be bought in unlimited quantities. Seed prices are the same as those at Pierre’s General Store.

Keep in mind:

  • Garlic Seeds, Red Cabbage Seeds, and Artichoke Seeds won’t be available until Year 2.
  • The Cone Hat changes in price over the three days, with the lowest price on Day 2.
  • The Grave Stone on Day 1 is 150g cheaper than at the Spirit’s Eve Festival.
  • The Log Section on Day 3 is 150g cheaper than at the Carpenter’s Shop.

Additionally, Rarecrows #7 and #8, as well as the Crystal Chair, can only be purchased after unlocking them by donating items to the Museum.

Tips and Tricks

Tip #1

The Night Market is a festival that offers plenty of activities and unique opportunities, so it’s important to plan ahead to make the most of your time. The market opens at 5 PM, and since time continues to pass while you are there, it’s wise to arrive as close to opening time as possible to maximize your experience. Keep in mind that time does continue, so be mindful of the clock to avoid passing out at 2 AM. If you pass out outside your home, you will lose 10% of your gold, up to a maximum of 1,000 gold.

Tip #2

In single-player mode, you can pause time by opening your inventory, which is especially useful when managing activities like the Submarine ride descent and ascent, as well as during the Mermaid Show. Since there are so many activities to enjoy, it’s important to decide ahead of time what you want to prioritize, such as unique items, paintings, fishing, or attending the Mermaid Show, and plan your activities accordingly.

Tip #3

When it comes to shopping, take advantage of the free coffee provided by the Desert Trader each night. You can collect a cup of coffee every 10 minutes, which grants a helpful speed boost. This can be useful for quickly moving between activities, or if you’re collecting coffee for a potential profit. If you’re interested in purchasing the Cone Hat from the Magic Shop Boat, keep in mind that it is sold at its lowest price of 2,500g on Winter 16.

Tip #4

Also, the Grave Stone sold on Winter 15 is 150g cheaper than at the Spirit’s Eve Festival, and the Log Section sold on Winter 17 is 150g cheaper than at the Carpenter’s Shop. Make sure to buy any of the paintings from Famous Painter Lupini each day of the festival, as they rotate on a 3-year schedule. If you’re interested in rare and unique items, the Magic Shop Boat offers exclusive items like the Iridium Fireplace, and the Decoration Boat is the only place to buy Candy Cane decorations.

Tip #5

The Magic Shop Boat also sells out-of-season seeds at the same price as Pierre’s General Store, though keep in mind that Garlic, Red Cabbage, and Artichoke Seeds won’t be available until Year 2.

Tip #6

For fishing, make sure to start your Submarine fishing tour before 11 PM, as the Fishing Submarine closes at that time. To get the most out of your fishing time, open your inventory to pause the game during the descent and ascent. If you’re looking to catch valuable fish or the Pearl, use an Iridium Rod with a Curiosity Lure, which increases your chances of catching rarer items. However, be aware that using a Training Rod will limit the fish you can catch, so it’s best to use a higher-tier rod for better results.

Tip #7

If you’re planning to attend the Mermaid Show, be sure to enter the Mermaid Boat before 12:30 AM, as that’s when the show ends. You can only obtain one Pearl per save file from the Mermaid Boat, so don’t miss the chance to collect this unique item. The correct sequence of notes to play on the clam shells to earn the Pearl is provided in Secret Note #15, but this is not required to solve the puzzle.

Tip #8

For other useful tips, remember that you can still complete quests during the festival. Quest dialogue will be triggered before the festival dialogue, so make sure to talk to villagers to finish your Gathering, Slaying Monsters, and Fishing quests. If you’re running late or don’t want to risk passing out, you can use the Shrouded Figure near Willy’s shop to teleport back home for 250g, a great alternative to using a Warp Totem.

Tip #9

Additionally, if you have any items placed on the beach, such as crab pots or chests, remove them before the event as they will temporarily disappear during the festival and return on Winter 18. Panning is also available during the event, with shimmering lights appearing in the water that can be used with the Pan to obtain items. Lastly, even while at the festival, you can still till sand, which will yield Clay, Snow Yams, and Winter Roots, providing additional resources.
