Stardew Valley Clint Guide

Stardew Valley Clint Guide - Introduction

Introduction to Stardew Valley Clint Guide

Clint is the local blacksmith in Pelican Town, responsible for upgrading your tools and processing geodes you bring to him. He is not a marriage candidate but plays an essential role in the game by providing materials and services for your farm. Clint comes from a family tradition of blacksmithing, though he expresses a desire to work outside.

He spends most of his time in his shop, where he also sells ores and other useful materials. Clint harbors a secret crush on Emily, frequently visiting the saloon to socialize with her but is too shy to approach her. Gus, the saloon owner, suspects Clint’s feelings but does not press him on the matter. A note found in Clint’s bedroom confirms his romantic interest. Clint also participates in the Desert Festival and attends the Night Market, making occasional appearances at town events.

Clint’s Schedule

Clint is typically found at the Blacksmith shop, where he works most days. His schedule remains consistent, with minor changes for festivals, holidays, rain, or doctor appointments. He opens the shop at 9:00 AM, spending the day behind the counter before moving to the anvil at 5:00 PM. At 7:00 PM, Clint heads to the Stardrop Saloon, where he stays until midnight before returning home to sleep. After the Community Center is restored, Clint’s Friday schedule changes.

He leaves his house at 8:50 AM and heads to the Community Center Boiler Room, where he stays until 5:00 PM, when he heads to the Saloon. On Fridays, Clint is unavailable for tool upgrades, geode processing, or shopping, unless it is raining. After the Beach Resort on Ginger Island is unlocked, Clint may occasionally spend his Fridays there, leaving the island at 6:00 PM to return home. On Winter 15, Clint follows a similar schedule, except he attends the Night Market at 5:00 PM. On Winter 16, Clint visits Harvey’s Clinic for an appointment before heading to the Saloon in the evening. On rainy days, his routine is unchanged.

During the Desert Festival, Clint boards the bus to the Calico Desert at 11:10 AM, arriving at his booth by 11:30 AM and returning to the Valley by midnight. In Spring 16, after bus service is restored, he attends the festival at 11:40 AM. Finally, on Green Rain (Year 1), Clint leaves his house at 6:00 AM and spends the day at the Saloon, arriving at 7:20 AM. Clint’s shop closes at 4:00 PM, so any transactions with him should be completed before then.

Clint’s Gift Guide

Clint is a straightforward character who appreciates gifts related to his profession as a blacksmith or those from the mines. You can give him up to two gifts per week to increase or decrease your friendship with him. His birthday is on Winter 26, and giving him a gift on this day will have a significant effect on your friendship.

Clint loves items like Amethyst, Aquamarine, Artichoke Dip, Emerald, Fiddlehead Risotto, Gold Bar, Iridium Bar, Jade, Omni Geode, Ruby, and Topaz, as well as all universal loves, earning you 80 friendship points per gift. He likes Copper Bar, Iron Bar, Mining Monthly, and all other universal likes (except flowers), which give you 45 points. Gifts like Chanterelle, Common Mushroom, Coal, Daffodil, Dandelion, Ginger, Gold Ore, Hazelnut, Iridium Ore, Leek, Magma Cap, Morel, Purple Mushroom, Refined Quartz, Snow Yam, and Winter Root, as well as all eggs (except Void Egg), fruit (except Fruit Tree Fruit & Salmonberry), and milk, will neither increase nor decrease your relationship with Clint.

Gifts such as flowers, Quartz, Salmonberry, and Wild Horseradish are disliked, lowering your friendship with Clint. Giving Clint gifts he hates, including Holly, Amaranth, Beer, Hops, Mead, Pale Ale, Wine, and all universal hates, will significantly lower your friendship by 40 points. When gifting Clint, he may react with comments like, “This is a fun gift. Thanks!” or “Thanks.” for loved, liked, or neutral gifts. For disliked or hated gifts, especially on his birthday, he might say, “Is this a birthday gift? It’s, uh… an interesting choice. Well, I appreciate that you remembered me, anyway.”

Clint’s Quests

Clint offers several quests throughout the game that provide opportunities to build friendship and earn rewards. One such quest is “Forging Ahead,” which triggers the morning after you collect your first Copper Ore.

Clint will visit you and give you the blueprints to craft a Furnace. Another quest, “Clint’s Attempt,” occurs on the 6th of Winter when Clint sends you a letter requesting that you give Emily an Amethyst and tell her it’s from him. Completing this task rewards you with one Friendship heart with Emily. “A Favor for Clint” takes place on the 17th of Winter, when Clint asks you to bring him an Iron Bar. The reward for this quest is 500g and one Friendship heart.

Clint may also post requests on the “Help Wanted” board outside Pierre’s General Store, where he may ask for ores, coal, or even a certain number of monster kills. These quests offer a gold reward that varies depending on the item or amount requested. You don’t need to have the requested items in your inventory when you accept the quest; simply gathering them and talking to Clint will complete the task. However, be aware that handing him ores or coal will result in gifting him those items.

Occasionally, Clint may request specific items, and completing these quests rewards you with three times the base value of the item plus 150 Friendship points. Special Orders may also appear on the Special Orders board in front of the Mayor’s Manor. One of the Special Orders, “Cave Patrol,” may ask you to slay 50 Bats, Dust Sprites, Skeletons, or Grubs. The reward for completing this order is 6,000g and the Geode Crusher recipe.

Clint’s Heart Events

Stardew Valley Clint Guide - Hearts

As you build your friendship with Clint, you unlock special heart events that provide deeper insight into his character, personal struggles, and relationships with other villagers, particularly Emily. At any friendship level greater than zero, Clint may send you a gift in the mail, such as a Copper Bar, Iron Bar, or Gold Bar, along with a short note.

The chances of receiving a gift increase as your friendship with Clint grows. At three hearts, Clint will have an event at the Stardrop Saloon on a Monday evening, between 7 pm and 11 pm, where he confides in you about his bad luck with women and asks for advice. During the event, you have four dialogue options, each affecting your friendship points differently.

After receiving advice, Clint awkwardly orders food from Emily and tries to ask her something, but ultimately gives up, leaving the event on a downbeat note. At six hearts, Clint will have an event triggered when you enter town from Cindersap Forest between 9 am and 6:30 pm, provided you haven’t married Emily and have seen the first part of Clint’s three-heart event.

In this event, Clint is found hiding in the bushes, watching Emily, and explains that he intended to ask her out but chickened out. You will encourage him to ask her out, and he will reluctantly agree. Afterward, Clint approaches Emily and invites her to the Grampleton Carnival, and she accepts, leaving Clint grateful for your encouragement.

At seven hearts, Clint will send you the recipe for Bean Hotpot in the mail. These heart events not only help deepen your relationship with Clint but also unlock new recipes and provide valuable insights into his emotional journey.

Clint’s Relationship with Emily

Stardew Valley Clint Guide - Emily

Clint has a significant crush on Emily, which is a central aspect of his character throughout the game. However, his shyness and insecurity prevent him from expressing his feelings directly to her. This is evident in many interactions where Clint overthinks his actions and often becomes nervous, especially when he visits the Stardrop Saloon, where Emily works.

He worries about how he comes across and is unable to initiate a meaningful conversation with her. A note found in Clint’s bedroom reveals his true feelings—it’s a love letter that he wrote but never sent due to his lack of courage. In the letter, he acknowledges that Emily sees him only as a friend and believes it’s his fault for not being open about his emotions.

Gus, the owner of the Saloon, is aware of Clint’s feelings but doesn’t bring it up, suggesting that Clint’s crush is known by others, even if he’s unaware of this. Clint’s struggle with his feelings for Emily is highlighted in several heart events. At three hearts, Clint seeks your advice on women but panics when Emily appears, unable to confess his feelings and feeling doomed. At six hearts, Clint is found hiding in the bushes, watching Emily but too afraid to talk to her.

With the player’s encouragement, he finally asks her out to the Grampleton Carnival. In addition, Clint’s dialogue during the Festival of Ice sometimes hints at his hopes that Emily might be interested in him. If the player marries Emily, Clint’s six-heart event will be blocked, emphasizing how deeply his unrequited love affects him. While Emily’s feelings for Clint are unclear, there is a subtle hint that she may have some interest in him, such as when she asks if the player knows how to cook Bean Hotpot, Clint’s seven-heart recipe. However, at the Flower Dance, Emily chooses to dance with Shane, which could imply that she does not return Clint’s affections.

Clint’s infatuation with Emily is portrayed as a blend of romantic longing, social anxiety, and insecurity, as he struggles to reconcile his feelings with his actions.

Other Details

Clint is an important character in Stardew Valley, known primarily for his role as the town blacksmith. He is responsible for upgrading tools and processing geodes, both crucial services that significantly impact the player’s progression. Clint works at the Blacksmith shop located in the center of the town, and his small house is next to the shop.

Despite his significant role, Clint is a shy, insecure, and somewhat awkward individual, often showing how self-conscious he is in social situations. He feels gratified when others take an interest in his work, as he takes pride in what he does. Clint is considered one of the most important people in Stardew Valley due to his work with tools and geodes.

During the Spirit’s Eve festival, Clint’s dialogue changes depending on whether the year is odd or even. In odd-numbered years, he mentions how his iridium-infused maces could easily destroy monsters in the maze, while in even-numbered years, he talks about having already completed the maze and plans to relax with a pumpkin ale, although he tries to ignore a spider infestation behind him.

Clint’s tool upgrades and geode processing are central to progressing in the game, and he is known for being helpful to the player. Maintaining a positive relationship with him is important, as he plays a significant role in the game by helping the player upgrade their tools and providing valuable resources. As a non-playable character (NPC), Clint is a part of the game’s broader community, with other key figures such as Lewis, Linus, the Wizard, and Demetrius.
