The Evony Military Academy in unlocks at Keep level 36, and is a major new line of technology to be researched. The Military Academy is a separate building from the Academy, and offers 6 new branches of technology to research. Unlike the Academy, the Military Academy costs Tactic Scrolls as opposed to Research Stones. Theses Tactic Scrolls can be acquired from packages, bosses, or events.
How does the Military Academy work?
The Evony Military Academy is split into 6 new lines of technology: Ground Troop Formation; Mounted Troop Formation; Ranged Troop Formation; Siege Machine Formation; Melee Formation; and Long Range Formation. The first four are unlocked at MA1 (Military Academy Level 1), and the last two are unlocked at MA6.
Each line of technology has two ‘single’ technologies that lead into one ‘bigger’ technology. The two singles typically are buffs that buff a single thing, and the ‘bigger’ technology offers a positive buff to yourself, and an enemy debuff.

Evony Military Academy Research Costs
The cost for each level of the Evony Military Academy research can be found below. Notice that level 5 (commonly referred to as MA5) has an abnormally large cost – this is because it was the max level during the release of the k40 update (and hence the release of the Military Academy). For some players, it may be advisable to do minimal research at this stage, and instead save your Tactic Scrolls for later Military Academy levels.

Evony Military Academy Duty Officer
The Military Academy Duty officer spot will offer an increase in research speed depending on the level of the Duty officer, up to a maximum of +40% Research Speed. There is currently only one General in Evony designated for the Military Academy, Justinian. Justinian offers the Evony Military Academy a 10% increase in research speed, and 12% increase in ground troop and mounted troop defense and HP when appointed as the Duty officer of the Military Academy.
How to Increase Research Speed for Military Academy
There are a variety of different ways to increase your research speed when conducting research in the Military Academy:
- Ensure you have equipped a Duty Officer for the Military Academy, preferably Justinian I if possible
- Research Typography and Super Typography in the normal Academy (under Advancement)
- Equip the “Intellect Crown” Monarch Gear
- Change your culture to China for default research speed increase, or America if your sub city is upgraded past grey.
- Switch your sub cities to American subs
Strategies for the Evony Military Academy
There are a few strategies you can employ with the Military Academy depending on how many Tactic Scrolls you have:
- Starting with the most obvious, if you have enough Tactic Scrolls (and gold), just research everything!
- If you have lots of Tactic Scrolls but not quite enough, it may be worth only doing the minimum research in MA5 so you can get more bang for your buck with MA6 and MA7 instead.
- If you have very little Tactic Scrolls, make sure you are using them only during the Tactic Scrolls consuming event. During this event you can receive a 10% ‘cashback’ if you consume them during it for points, then use those points to redeem more Tactic Scrolls. It may also be worth looking at the technology tree’s and understanding what would be most beneficial to yourself. For example, if you are a low spending T1 trap, I would recommend you do the minimum amounts for buffs, but maximize the debuffs available – as this will help more with your defense set up.
