This guide will help you to navigate the complex world of Evony Generals and give insight into the top-ranking generals.
Evony General Ranking
Understanding Evony Generals
Evony Generals come in seven rarities, although the only Generals you should consider are Legend Historic, and Epic Historic. These Generals have special skills, with many of them having ascension, which allow for an increase in buffs. Generals have four main attributes: Leadership, Attack, Defense, and Politics.
Generals are used to fight bosses and players, harvest resources, debuff your enemy, reduce stamina consumption, and lots more.

Evony General List
The Evony General list can be split into 8 types: Ranged, Ground, Siege, Mounted, Defense General, Development, Sub, and Duty. Rankings for generals are made for each type of General. It is better to have purpose-built Generals for a specific type, rather than all-rounder generals. That is why there is no “Best PVP General” for Evony, instead there are the best Generals for each troop type for example.
Furthermore, General lists are split into Free-to-Play (F2P) and Premium (coiner). This is to give variation in the lists depending on if players spend on the game.
Best Generals in Evony
There is a range of best evony generals, as each category is unique and has its own best generals. With the frequent addition of new Generals to Evony, it is important to stay on top of new General releases, to understand how it will impact your gameplay, especially the best PVP generals in Evony. The best generals is subjective, and the rankings are my opinion.
Best F2P Generals in Evony
As of the 21st of April, 2024, the best generals for Free-to-Play players are as follows:
Best Mounted General
The best General in Evony for mounted as a free to play player would be George A Custer. This is due to his ability to perform in both PVP and PVE. He can be found in Relics making ascension easy.
George A Custer ranks 3rd in attacking PVP and 4th in reinforcement, as well as third in PVE. He is a great all-round General. For a full ranking of F2P Mounted Generals, click here.
Best Ranged General
The best General in Evony for ranged troops as a free to play player would be either Minamoto no Yoshitsune, or Elektra. Minamoto no Yoshitsune is the 4th best for attacking, and best for reinforcement. Elektra is the best for attacking, and out with the top 5 for reinforcement.
It depends on personal style, but as someone who attacks and reinforces, I prefer Minamoto no Yoshitsune. For a full ranking of Ranged F2P generals, click here.
Best Ground General
The best Ground General in Evony is either Elise or Soult based on playing style. Elise is better for attacking, whereas Soult is preferred for reinforcement. Both generals rank well in both situations though. For a full ranking of Ground F2P generals, click here.
Best Siege General
Whilst siege is not recommended for F2P players, the best Siege General in Evony is Ulysses S. Grant. This will require a spare dragon, although if you do not have one then you should pick Matthias I. Both of these generals can be found in the tavern making ascension easy.
Best Defense General
The best defense general in Evony is Zachary Taylor. He can found in Relics and provides strong ranged buffs. If you are looking to create a T1 Mounted Trap keep, you should select Queen Boudica due to her mounted buff.

Debuff
The Best Debuff Generals in Evony range massively. This is because everyones style is different, although a generic combination of debuff / sub generals would be:

Duty Officer

Development
The Best Development Generals in Evony are split into 3 main types: Farming, Rallying, and Other.
The Best Farming General is Queen Jindeok who increases the number of resources from world map by 40%, and an extra 20% from the alliance resource spot.
The Best Rally joining General is Aethelflaed, although this relies on their Specialty which isn’t a smart move to invest in. Instead, the best rally joining general is a combination between Theodora / Baibars, and Nathanael Green. They will increase your double drops, and reduce your stamina consumption when in combination.
