The Best Evony Sub Generals

Whilst ‘the best’ Generals are hard to define in Evony, as every players situation, preferences, and keep are unique, below are the ranking of the top 5 Premium and top 5 free-to-play Evony Sub Generals. I will explain the rating behind each of these Generals – your top general’s opinion may vary from mine, and that is perfectly valid, but here is my two cents:

Top 5 Premium Evony Sub Generals

As these Generals are Premium, they will be discussed from a fully maxed out perspective – that is 5 Star Ascension and both 2nd and 4th Specialty maxed out.

1 – Cimon

Cimon offers a the greatest total debuff (610%) amongst any sub city General, whilst also boasting impressive debuffs specifically against hard-to-obtain Ranged Attack (100%), Siege Defense (85%), and Siege HP (75%).

2 – Narses

Narses offers the second most overall debuff, but is particularly great due to his massive impact on Ground. He boasts an incredible 125% Ground Attack debuff – the most out of any general, and 110% Ground Defense – the most out of any general. Narses ranks 4th for Ground HP at 60%. Narses also ranks in the top 10 for debuffing Ranged HP, Siege HP, Mounted Defense, and Mounted HP.

3 – Zizka

Zizka is the perfect General to debuff enemy ranged troops, with a 120% debuff against ranged attack, 110% against defense, and 100% against HP. Whilst prominent in ranged debuff, which is a trait most players look for, the reason for 3rd place is due to their poor debuffs for other troops. Zizka comes 4th overall for total debuff, although 2/3rds of their debuffs is towards purely ranged, leaving not much room for the other three troop types.

4 – Gilgamesh

Gilgamesh supplies great Ranged Defense (95%) and HP (85%) debuffs. As well as debuffing Siege Defense (95%) and HP (85%) which is typically hard to acquire. Furthermore there is a small amount of debuffs towards ground and mounted. Overall Gilgamesh has the 4th amount of total debuffs, although his real strength lies in debuffing – the typically hard to debuff – Siege Defense and HP. If you do not have Gilgamesh, another strong contender for this spot is Jan Koral Chodkiewicz, who lost out on ranking due to their 110% lower overall debuff.

5 – Pachacuti

Pachacuti is a great alternative to Narses if you are looking to get those tricky debuffs on Ground – Defense (100%) and HP (90%). Furthermore, Pachacuti boasts solid Mounted Defense (100%) and HP (90%) debuffs. Pachacuti comes in at the 3rd highest overall debuffing General, although 5th in the list due to Narses covering the top spot for Ground debuff.

For the purpose of this free-to-play ranking, we will assume all generals to have 1 star ascension, and no specialties maxed. This is an estimate as to what most free-to-play players should aim for, although some may well advance into further ascending and improving the specialties of their F2P Generals.

1 – Empress Dowager Cixi

The Empress offers 115% total debuff, with her debuffing stats that are typically hard to do such as Siege Defense (15%), Ground Defense (40%), and Ground HP (10%).

Harald has the great total debuff out of all of the F2P generals, debuffing 10% of each troop attribute, for 120% debuff in total. Harald can be a good base layer for your sub generals, and then you can specialise with other Generals to debuff specific troop attributes.

3 – Andrew Jackson

Andrew Jackson has the lowest total debuff at 60% out of all sub Generals, although he shines because 20% of that debuff is in ranged attack – making him the number one F2P general for this. Furthermore, you do not need to ascend Andrew Jackson to achieve this debuff against ranged (although you would be missing out on 10% against Ground and Mounted HP). Some people won’t like Andrew Jackson so high on the list, but I believe archer is a key debuff for F2P players to focus on, hence his position on this list.

4 – Margaret I

Margaret I is the best F2P General for debuffing mounted troops. This allows you to debuff another common march that F2P players are looking to score against. She debuffs 30% against Mounted Attack, 10% for Mounted Defense, and 5% for Mounted HP, with a total debuff of 90%.

5 – Nero

Nero has the third highest total debuff out of the F2P generals with 100%. He debuffs every troop types HP by 25%. Nero comes in at 5th because this does debuff some tricky stats such as Siege HP or Ground HP, but I simply think there is better ‘generalist’ Generals, such as Harald or Empress, and Nero does not specialise so does not help if you are looking to debuff a specific march.
