Evony Beginners Guide – Chapter 4: Keep 30

Congratulations – you have made it to keep 30! This is where the fun begins. Depending on how much you have coined (assuming not heavily at most), SVS has probably occurred, or will occur within the next couple of weeks.

Keep 30 is when you unlock T12 troops. These troops will be useful, even when you have the capacity to produce T16 troops at K45. They are the backbone of every players army. Before you start training loads of troops, have a think about the type of player you want to be – remember our rock, paper, scissors example from Chapter 1? Ranged beats Mounted, Mounted beats Ground, and Ground beats Ranged – and Siege counters itself.

Lots of players will be cav heavy as it is best for running rallies, perhaps you may consider going into a ranged build (priority to ranged troops, generals, and gear), or some players may already be countering cavs with this build, so you could counter them with a ground build – but then you are exposed to cav players. Personally as someone who coins a little bit, I play primarily ranged as it counters cav players perfectly, and not so many people play ground. Despite this, cav is also beneficial if you would like to participate in running rallies – rather than just joining them – and helps you to become a greater team player, and also do well in BOG! Have a think about the build you would like to complete.

As you begin to create your army, I recommend you read about generals, layering, skill books, spiritual beasts and dragons, subordinate cities, talent tree, traps, buffs / debuffs, blazon, art hall, refining, and ghosting. This knowledge is vital as you begin to approach PVP.

At K30 one thing I will stress is your academy – make sure you are researching, researching, and researching. In order to reduce research times you can change monarch gear, and even research to reduce research times. This is vital to increase troop buffs, and reduce construction / research times, as well as a variety of other positives. Without research you will get crushed by players a lot smaller than yourself. It is key to success. Check out our guide on buffs / debuffs here for a further explanation.

As you are starting to progress, I recommend reading some of the more in-depth guides. These will help to mold you into a strong player.

This is the last structured chapter of the beginner’s guide – congratulations, you have made it! You are no longer a beginner! The next stage you should be aware of is k33 where Aech gear is unlocked, learn more about that here.
